GTA 6 launches worldwide on November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. That is one day inside the line. The fan-voted Players’ Voice category has an even later deadline — November 30 — so GTA 6 clears that one by eleven days.
Was the Cutoff Moved for Rockstar?
This is the rumour that spread first, and the answer is no — the dates do not support it.
The Game Awards cutoff falls on a Friday in mid-to-late November every year, and it moves by a few days each time:
- 2023: Friday, November 17 — a November 19 release would NOT qualify
- 2024: Friday, November 22 — a November 19 release WOULD qualify
- 2025: Friday, November 21 — a November 19 release WOULD qualify
- 2026: Friday, November 20 — a November 19 release qualifies by one day
A November 19 launch would have qualified in 2024 and 2025 as well. Only the 2023 date would have shut it out. The 2026 cutoff is actually earlier than the last two years, not later. There is no special Rockstar exception here — the game just happens to land one day inside a normal cutoff.
Eligible Is Not Nominated
This is the part most headlines skip. Eligibility only means GTA 6 can be nominated. Whether it is nominated is up to a jury of more than 100 global media and influencer outlets. Each outlet submits a confidential ballot of its top five choices per category, and the five games on the most ballots become the nominees.
Three things about that process matter for GTA 6:
- There is no entry form and no fee. The Game Awards says all games are automatically eligible for nomination, and no developer has to pay to be considered.
- Fans decide only 10% of each winner. The jury holds 90%. Fan voting closes on December 9 at 6 p.m. PT.
